Space Camp
I TAKE A REST AT THE FOOT OF A ROCKET IN SPACE CAMP.

BOTH ELWOOD AND I SPENT A WEEK AT SPACE CAMP. WE WERE IN TRAINING FOR ELWOOD'S TRIP ON THE SPACE SHUTTLE. BECAUSE ELWOOD WOULD TAKE UP TO MUCH SPACE ON THE CRAMPED SHUTTLE, WE REMOVED HIS FACE AND FLEW THAT INSTEAD. FROM FEBRUARY THIRD TO THE ELEVENTH 1994, HE SMILED DOWN ON ALL THE CHILDREN THAT WOULD NEVER HAVE THIS CHANCE. HE WILL ALWAYS REMEMBER THE CREW OF DISCOVERY STS-60.

IF YOU ARE GOING TO FLY ON THE SHUTTLE YOU NEED TO PRACTICE.

ELWOOD SPENT A WEEK AT SPACE CAMP TO PREPARE FOR HIS MAIDEN SPACE VOYAGE. ONE OF THE FIRST THINGS HE LEARNED ABOUT SPACE WALKING WAS THAT IT WORKS BEST WHILE WEARING A SPACE SUIT. IT'S NOT THAT EASY TO HOLD YOUR BREATH WHILE YOU WAIT FOR A FRIEND TO TAKE YOUR PICTURE. BY THE TIME HIS FACE WAS FLOWN ON THE SHUTTLE HE WAS A GENUINE ASTRONAUT.
ALL ABOARD! I PREPARE TO TRAVEL CROSS COUNTRY ON AMTRAK.

A FEW YEARS BACK ELWOOD HAD THE CHANCE TO BOARD THE TRAIN IN PRINCETON, ILLINOIS AND TRAVEL ALL THE WAY TO WASHINGTON STATE. IT WAS A GREAT DEAL OF FUN AND ELWOOD SAW THE COUNTRY FROM HIS VIEWING BOX. HE WAS MOST TAKEN WITH THE ROCKY MOUNTAINS AND WAS VERY IMPRESSED THAT LEWIS AND CLARK DID IT WITHOUT A SLEEPING CAR.
