I HAD JUST PICKED UP ELWOOD FROM UPS AFTER HIS TRIP TO THE EMPIRE STATE BUILDING, WHEN WE SPOTTED THIS SIGN IN FRONT OF OUR FAVORITE PIZZERIA "GIG'S"
JAY WHIPS US UP HIS FAMOUS PIZZA FRIES.

ELWOOD REALIZES HE IS STUFFED, BUT SEES THAT FLAT STANLEY COULD USE SOME NOURISHMENT. HE ASKS THE OWNER OF GIG'S TO MAKE UP PIZZA FRIES. AFTER A FEW SODAS AND A MOUNTAIN OF PIZZA FRIES, THE TWO FRIENDS POSED FOR A FORMAL PICTURE AND HEADED HOME FOR BEDTIME AND SCHOOL IN THE MORNING.

BOWLING WITH A NEW FRIEND

SOME FRIENDS OF MINE HAD RECEIVED A "FLAT STANLEY" FROM THEIR GRANDSON. THEIR GRANDSON HAD SEEN ELWOOD'S WEBSITE AND THOUGHT IT WOULD BE COOL FOR HIS FLAT STANLEY TO HAVE HIS PICTURE TAKEN WITH ELWOOD. SO WHILE THE TWO OF THEM WERE INVOLVED IN A SPIRITED BOWLING MATCH, THE GRANDPARENTS TOOK AN INFORMAL SHOT.

United States Parachute Association
IT'S A BIRD, IT'S A PLANE, NO, IT'S ME!

IN APRIL AND MAY OF 2002 ELWOOD HAD A CHANCE TO SKYDIVE WITH JIM CROUCH. JIM IS A MEMBER OF THE UNITED STATES PARACHUTE ASSOCIATION AND PRIDES HIMSELF IN THE SAFETY AND TRAINING OF HIS STUDENTS. JIM WANTED ELWOOD TO KNOW THAT SKYDIVING IS A SERIOUS MATTER AND SHOULD NEVER BE TAKEN LIGHTLY. ELWOOD DID SEVERAL TRAINING JUMPS BEFORE HE WAS READY FOR THE BIG DAY. WHEN JIM AND ELWOOD WERE AT AN ALTITUDE OF 13,500 FEET THEY JUMPED. THEN IT WAS FREEFALL CITY FOR THE NEXT 8,000 FEET AND 60 SECONDS. THE CHUTE OPENED AND THEY ENJOYED ABOUT A 7-MINUTE RIDE TO THE TARGET. ELWOOD FELT VERY SAFE WITH JIM AS HE IS A VETERAN OF 2,600 JUMPS AND HAS 48 HOURS OF FREEFALL.

LIGHTS, CAMERA, ACTION!

THIS IS HOW JIM WAS ABLE TO PHOTOGRAPH AND VIDEO OUR JUMP IN VIRGINIA. KEVIN FINUCANE CAME ALONG WITH A VIDEO CAMERA OR A 35MM CAMERA STRAPPED TO HIS HELMET. KEVIN WAS IMPRESSED THAT ELWOOD NEVER LOST HIS SMILE DURING THE ORDEAL.
