ON MY WAY HOME FROM A TRIP TO FLORIDA I STOPPED
BY THE ELEPHANT SANCTUARY IN HOHENWALD, TENNESSEE.
ANN BILANZICH THE PROJECT MANAGER AT THE ELEPHANT SANCTUARY INVITED ELWOOD
TO THE OFFICE AND TOLD HIM A LITTLE HISTORY OF THE RESERVE. IT WAS FOUNDED
IN 1995, AND IS THE NATION'S LARGEST NATURAL HABITAT REFUGE DEVELOPED
SPECIFICALLY FOR ENDANGERED AFRICAN AND ASIAN ELEPHANTS. IT CURRENTLY
OPERATES ON 2,700 ACRES, AND WITH DONATIONS FROM PEOPLE LIKE YOU AND ME;
THE POSSIBILITIES ARE ENDLESS FOR OUR GIANT FRIENDS.

ANN BILANZICH, PROJECT MANAGER, GETS ME IN A GROUP SHOT WITH SOME OF THE
STAFF THAT KEEPS THE DREAM ALIVE.

FIRST ROW: DR. SUSAN MIKOTA, ELEPHANT CARE INTERNATIONAL, ANN BILANZICH, PROJECT MANAGER, ELWOOD, ELLEN ARLEDGE, DATA ENTRY

SECOND ROW: CATHY JACKSON, MEMBERSHIP COORDINATOR,
MELANIE BLACKETER, MERCHANDISE COORDINATOR, LORENDA ROCHELLE, DATA ENTRY, AMANDA CHANLEY, ACKNOWLEDGMENT PROCESSOR

AFTER LEARNING WHAT MAKES THE RESERVE RUN, I GO INTO THE FIELD AND MEET
SOME OF THE ELEPHANTS.

ELWOOD IS SHOWN THE HARD WORK IT TAKES TO KEEP A HERD OF ELEPHANTS HALE, HEALTHY, AND HAPPY BY SANDRA DE REK, LEAD AFRICAN KEEPER. SANDRA EXPLAINS THE DAILY NEEDS OF ZULA THE AFRICAN ELEPHANT. AFTER A DAY OF FOLLOWING THE STAFF AROUND, ELWOOD IS GLAD HE ONLY HAS A TURTLE TO CARE FOR.

AFTER A HARD DAY OF WORK THERE IS NOTHING BETTER
THAN A CAMPFIRE AND GOOD FRIENDS.

ELWOOD GETS A GROUP SHOT OF THE DEDICATED CAREGIVERS AT THE RESERVE, BEFORE HE HAS TO SAY GOOD-BYE. ANDY THE DOG WAS GLAD TO SEE ELWOOD GO. NOW HE HAS THE GIRLS ALL TO HIMSELF AGAIN!

DROP THEM A LINE OR A CARD TO SHOW YOUR SUPPORT FOR THE VALUABLE WORK THESE CONCERNED INDIVIDUALS ARE DOING.
