I'VE ALWAYS WANTED TO BE A FIRE FIGHTER SO I TOOK TIME TO VISIT
THE NEW YORK CITY FIRE DEPARTMENT MUSEUM.
THE NEW YORK CITY FIRE MUSEUM HOUSES ONE OF THE NATION'S MOST IMPORTANT COLLECTIONS OF FIRE RELATED ART AND ARTIFACTS FROM THE LATE 18TH CENTURY TO THE PRESENT. AMONG ITS HOLDINGS ARE PAINTED LEATHER BUCKETS, HELMETS, PARADE HATS AND BELTS, LATERNS AND TOOLS, PRE-CIVIL WAR HAND PUMPED FIRE ENGINES, HORSE DRAWN VEHICLES AND EARLY MOTORIZED APPARATUS.

THE POLITE THING TO DO WHEN YOU VISIT ANYWHERE
IS TO CHECK IN AT THE MAIN DESK.
MY SECOND STOP IS TO ATTEND A LESSON

ELWOOD'S INSTRUCTOR IS RETIRED FDNY LT. JOHN KENNY. HE USUALLY INSTRUCTS ON FIRE SAFETY, BUT TODAY IS GIVING A LESSON ON OLD FIRE FIGHTING TECHNIQUES.
GANG WAY!!!!!!
ELWOOD GETS THE CHANCE TO TAKE THE OLD "LA FRANCE" ENGINE OUT FOR A RIDE. THE FIRE FIGHTERS FROM ENGINE CO. C ORIGINALLY USED THIS ENGINE. IF CO. C IS STILL AROUND, ELWOOD WOULD BE PROUD TO DRIVE FOR YOU ANY DAY.

ELWOOD WAS HAPPY TO HEAR HE IS NOT SUPPOSED TO BE THE ONLY ONE PUMPING WATER.
YOU'D BE TIRED TOO!
AFTER TWO DAYS OF FIRE FIGHTING SCHOOL, A FRIEND POINTS OUT THERE THE STAIRS TO THE SLEEPING QUARTERS ARE. ELWOOD WAS GETTING MIGHTY TIRED OF TRYING TO CLIMB THE POLE.

ELWOOD WAS NOT SURE IF THIS STATUE IS A REPRESENTATION OF ALL FIRE FIGHTERS OR ONE FOR A VERY BRAVE FIRE FIGHTER, BUT HE WAS VERY PROUD TO HAVE HIS PICTURE TAKEN ALONG SIDE HIM. IF ANYONE KNOWS THE ANSWER, PLEASE SIGN ELWOOD'S GUESTBOOK AND I WILL INCLUDE IT ON THIS PAGE. IF YOU GET TO NEW YORK, OR IF YOU LIVE IN NEW YORK AND HAVE NEVER SEEN THE MUSEUM, YOU DON'T KNOW WHAT YOU ARE MISSING BY NOT STOPPING IN. I KNOW ELWOOD HIGHLY RECOMMENDS IT.
