ELWOOD REALLY ENJOYED WATCHING THE BOATS GO BY ON THE OHIO RIVER. HE ALSO VISITED WITH MANY PEOPLE AND ENJOYED HAVING HIS PICTURE MADE WITH THE GEORGE ROGERS CLARK STATUE. WHEN HE GOT INSIDE THE BARRICADES, LOCATED INSIDE THE FORT, IT WAS REALLY TOUGH TO GET HIM OUT. HE PLAYED HIDE AND SEEK WITH US AND ANYONE ELSE WHO WOULD PARTICIPATE. EVERYONE AT THE PARK ENJOYED HEARING OF ELWOOD'S MANY TRAVELS AND THE CLASS HE WOULD SOON RETURN TO.

EVEN THOUGH IT WAS SUMMER IN METROPOLIS, ELWOOD VISITED WITH OUR SUMMER SCHOOL PROGRAM. THE PROGRAM ONLY LASTS A COUPLE OF WEEKS BUT THE KIDS REALLY ENJOY READING AND THE MANY ACTIVITIES THEY PARTICIPATE IN. THEY THOUGHT IT WAS GREAT THAT ELWOOD WAS COMING TO VISIT THEM ... EVEN THOUGH HE WAS OUT OF SCHOOL.

ONE OF THE TEACHERS, MS. KRISTA CLAYTON, STATED THAT ELWOOD WAS A PERFECT EXAMPLE OF A STUDENT. SHE ALSO STATED THAT HIS CLASS AND HIS TEACHER SHOULD BE VERY PROUD OF THE WAY HE ACTED WHILE IN SCHOOL.

THE METROPOLIS PUBLIC LIBRARY WAS ALSO A GREAT INTEREST TO ELWOOD. HE AGAIN MADE MANY FRIENDS THERE AND PARTICIPATED IN THE ACTIVITIES THAT OUR LOCAL LIBRARY PROVIDES DURING THE SUMMER. HE HELPED TO MAKE PINECONE BIRD FEEDERS - HE DID FUSS A TAD BIT ABOUT THE MESS IT WAS MAKING.

BUT AFTER A QUICK RINSE OFF, HE WAS READY TO VISIT THE MEMORIAL STATUE LOCATED IN THE VETERAN'S MEMORIAL PARK RIGHT NEXT DOOR TO THE LIBRARY. MS. RANA DAUNIS, CHILDREN'S LIBRARIAN, WAS ALSO IMPRESSED WITH ALL OF ELWOOD'S KNOWLEDGE OF COMPUTERS AND HIS MANY ABILITIES.

ELWOOD WAS EVERYWHERE IN OUR SMALL TOWN OF 6,500 PEOPLE! BEING A BOY (NO OFFENSE GIRLS) - HE HAD AN ABSOLUTE BLAST AT THE METROPOLIS FIRE DEPARTMENT AND POLICE DEPARTMENT. AT THE POLICE DEPARTMENT HE WAS ALLOWED TO BE A DISPATCHER FOR A DAY. HE ALSO GOT TO MEET WITH OFFICER JOE BASHAM AND THE K-9 DOG, BUGSY. ELWOOD AND BUGSY HIT IT OFF RIGHT AWAY. BUGSY AND JOE SPOKE TO ELWOOD ABOUT THE DANGERS OF DRUGS AND SUCH.

AGAIN, ELWOOD TRIED TO CONVINCE THE OFFICERS THAT HE COULD DRIVE AND ATTEMPTED A QUICK GETAWAY, BUT OFFICER DAVE KOCH QUICKLY ALLOWED ELWOOD TO RIDE IN THE BACK SEAT OF THE POLICE CRUISER. ELWOOD DID MANAGE TO GET IN THE FRONT SEAT AND PUT THE OFFICER'S HAT ON.
