VISITING THE MASSAC CO. SHERIFF'S DEPARTMENT WAS ALSO A TREAT FOR ELWOOD. HE AGAIN WAS ALLOWED TO DISPLAY HIS DISPATCHING SKILLS.

WHILE AT THE FIRE DEPARTMENT, ELWOOD WAS GIVEN LADDER TRUCK TRAINING, UNDER THE DIRECTION OF CHAD BEAUMONT. PICTURED IN THE CENTER IS CHAD, CHAD PARKER AND ELWOOD GETTING INSTRUCTION IN THE ACTUAL MANNING OF THE TRUCK. ELWOOD LEARNED ABOUT THE DEVICES USED IN FIRE AND HOW TO HELP PUT OUT FIRES. HE ALSO ENJOYED SITTING ATOP THE LAFRANCE FIRE DEPARTMENT TRUCK. THE TRUCK IS AN ORIGINAL TO METROPOLIS AND IS A 1924 AND WAS COMPLETELY RESTORED IN THE LATE 1990'S.

ANOTHER VISIT WAS TO THE METROPOLIS PUBLIC SWIMMING POOL, WHERE ELWOOD WATCHED OTHER CHILDREN RECEIVE THEIR SWIMMING LESSONS. ELWOOD PROVED HIS BRAVERY TO THE OTHER STUDENTS BY HIS ATTEMPT TO GO OFF THE LOW DIVE. PICTURED WITH ELWOOD IS MITCH ABELL, LIFEGUARD.

WHILE OUT, HE ALSO VISITED ONE OF OUR MANY PARKS. THE DOROTHY MILLER PARK IS LOCATED ON THE OHIO RIVER AND MANY OF OUR RESIDENTS WALK THE TRAIL AROUND IT AND ENJOY EATING THEIR LUNCH WHILE AGAIN WATCHING THE BOATS TRAVEL THE RIVER. PICTURED WITH ELWOOD IS JEFF BULLOCK.

ELWOOD VISITED WASHINGTON PARK AND ENJOYED WALKING AROUND THE GAZEBO. WASHINGTON PARK IS LOCATED DIRECTLY ACROSS THE STREET FROM OUR PUBLIC LIBRARY. THE PARK IS THE SITE OF MANY WEDDINGS AND BIRTHDAY PARTIES.

AFTER MANY OF HIS OUTDOOR ACTIVITIES, ELWOOD VISITED WITH THE CITY CLERK'S OFFICE AND WAS WELCOMED WITH OPEN ARMS BY ALL THE LADIES. HIS MATH SKILLS WERE TESTED WHEN RESIDENTS CAME IN TO PAY THEIR BILLS. HE WAS GREAT AT GIVING BACK CHANGE.

ELWOOD ALSO VISITED THE MASSAC COUNTY COURT HOUSE AND WAS ALLOWED TO SIT IN THE JUDGE'S SEAT. HE ALSO HAD HIS PICTURE TAKEN IN FRONT OF THE VIETNAM VETERANS MEMORIAL AT THE COURT HOUSE.

THE COURT HOUSE IS LOCATED ON SUPERMAN SQUARE AND MARKET STREET - WHICH IS OUR UPTOWN AREA. HE ENJOYED HIS VISIT WITH DAVID MARTIN, OWNER OF HUMMA'S DRUG STORE. WHILE OUTSIDE OF HUMMA'S, ELWOOD TRIED TO CONVINCE THE CITY TO SEND HIM HOME IN THIS TOY CAR WHICH IS PROUDLY ON DISPLAY (AND FOR SALE).
